A second wind at 10pm, waking at 3am with a racing mind, and relying on coffee just to feel functional can appear unrelated. Yet these are among the top signs of cortisol imbalance reported by people whose stress physiology no longer feels aligned with their day-to-day demands. Cortisol is not inherently harmful. It is an essential hormone with a precise rhythm, and the pattern of that rhythm often matters more than a single result.
For high-functioning adults dealing with persistent fatigue, anxiety, brain fog or disrupted sleep, the useful question is not simply whether cortisol is high or low.
